Cookies Policy
This page explains what cookies and similar browser storage Fanogram uses, what for, and how you can control them. For the broader story of what data we collect see our privacy policy.
[PLACEHOLDER — working draft. Final wording + jurisdiction specifics (especially for EU/UK GDPR e-Privacy compliance) will be reviewed by legal counsel before commercial launch.]
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Similar technologies — localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB — work the same way. We use all of these for different purposes.
2. Categories we use
Strictly necessary (always on)
These are required for the site to work. You cannot turn them off without breaking core functionality.
- Clerk session cookies — keep you signed in.
- CSRF tokens — protect against cross-site-request-forgery attacks on dashboard mutations.
- Coming-soon gate cookie — only used while the site-gate is active during the closed beta.
- Acting-as cookie — for agency users, stores which creator you're currently acting on behalf of.
Functional (always on)
These remember your preferences but are not strictly required.
- Theme preference — light / dark / system.
- Language preference — English / Dutch / etc.
- Sidebar collapse state — remembers if you had a panel open or closed.
Analytics (opt-in)
We use product-analytics tooling to understand how creators actually use Fanogram so we can improve it. Aggregate only — no attempt at re-identification.
- PostHog — product analytics. Pseudonymous user id, event names, feature-flag exposure.
Performance & error monitoring (always on)
- Sentry — captures unhandled JavaScript errors so we can fix bugs. Includes a short stack trace and your user id; does not include the contents of fan messages or vault content.
Third-party content embeds
When you view content embedded from third parties (e.g. a GIF from Giphy in a chat preview), that third party may set cookies on your browser per their own policy. Fanogram does not control these.
3. What we DO NOT use
- We do not use third-party advertising cookies on the dashboard or in-app surfaces.
- We do not sell or share cookie-based identifiers with data brokers.
- We do not run cross-site retargeting pixels (Meta Pixel, Google Ads conversion pixels, etc.) on creator-facing pages.
4. Controlling cookies
Browser settings let you block or delete cookies, but doing so will break sign-in (Clerk session cookies are required). To sign out and clear our session, use the sign-out button in the avatar menu or visit /api/signout.
[PLACEHOLDER — per-category opt-in/opt-out widget (the compliant EU/UK GDPR e-Privacy cookie banner) will be added before public launch. Working approach: bundle a consent manager covering analytics + non-essential functional cookies; strictly-necessary always on.]
5. Changes
We may update this list as we add or remove vendors. Material changes will be announced via the dashboard and / or email at least 14 days before they take effect.
